Malappuram: Former Samastha leader Hakeem Faizy Adrisseri announced his resignation as general secretary of the Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC). The decision came a day after he held talks with Muslim League state president Sadiqali Shihab Thangal in Panakkad.

Earlier, Hakeem Faizy was expelled from Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama for allegedly working against the ideals of the organisation and the principles of Sunni Islam.

Following the meeting on Tuesday, Sadiq Ali Thangal announced that Hakeem Faizy would resign from his post. Faizy also left the meeting without responding to queries raised by the media.

Last week, a meeting of the state officials of Samastha Kerala Sunni Yuvajana Sangam (SYS) and Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation (SKSSF) also directed its members not to share the stage with Faizy at public events.

But Sadiq Ali Thangal, also the state president of SYS, attended the opening ceremony of a college with him the other day. The meeting led to widespread debate among Samasta leaders.

Sadiq Ali Thangal had spoken with Samastha president Jifri Muthukoya Thangal on the matter. However, Jifri Thangal stood firm that Faizy must be removed.
