Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that the UDF had demanded in the Assembly that the appointments of the Waqf Board should be made transparent by creating a recruitment board. However, it is good that the ministers and the CM, who did not understand the importance of it then, have realised it lately.

He also alleged that the CPM is accusing the Muslim League as communal. Chief Minister and the CPM should clarify what is communal in this matter.

The issues raised by Samastha leaders during the detailed discussion in the Assembly were also pointed out by the Opposition. But the government was adamant that it would implement the bill regardless. Now the Waqf Appointment Bill will have to be withdrawn by the Assembly.

The Devaswom Recruitment Board was set up to avoid the appointment of non-Hindus to the Devaswom Board. Likewise, Waqf Board appointments should also be made through a recruitment board, he added.

Earlier today, Samastha leaders said that CM assured more deliberations on the matter in their meeting with him.
