Sales and profit of monsoon bumper lottery comes down from previous years
Kanhangad: Sales of monsoon bumper lottery tickets, which has a prize money of Rs 5 crores, was able to generate a profit of only Rs 4.5 crores this year as against Rs 10.15 crores last year. The result of the lottery, which costs less than Rs 200, will be declared on Tuesday. The ticket sales came down this year. Only 11 lakh monsoon bumper tickets were sold compared to 18 lakh tickets last year. Although the result was scheduled to be announced on July 30, it had to be postponed considering the reduction in sales. Also the increase in GST tax, from 12 percent to 28 percent this year, resulted in the lowering of profits.
Usually monsoon bumper tickets are not picked up by many people when compared to other bumper tickets. This is mostly due to the monsoon season. There have been certain years in which more than 25 lakh monsoon bumper tickets have been sold. This year, only 12 lakh tickets were printed initially and out of this a few tickets are still to be sold. So for the first time, only 4 series were present on the tickets instead of 5 series.
Around 2.31 crore lottery tickets went unsold after the implementation of the lockdown in the state. This means a loss of Rs 72.20 crores.
Onam bumper lotteries will be released in the state on Tuesday. Its prize money stands at Rs 12 crore this year as well. Tickets are priced at Rs 300. Six people will get second prize of Rs 1 crore each. 46 lakh lottery tickets were sold in total in the state last year and the total sales garnered a profit of Rs 38 crores.
