Salary, pension for 2 lakh persons delayed in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: The disbursement of salary and pension for about two lakh persons in Kerala was affected following a server issue in the Reserve Bank. The disbursement of salary and pension was disrupted on Monday and Tuesday.
Finance minister Dr Thomas Isaac said in the assembly that they have contacted the Reserve Bank to resolve the issue. The bank has informed that the trouble will be resolved by Wednesday.
Trouble with 'E-Kuber'
The salary bills of the employees will be cashed and the amount will be deposited in the treasury every month. The money is transferred to bank accounts of the staff and pensioners through the Reserve Bank online portal ‘E-Kuber’.
The Reserve Bank headquarters is located in Mumbai. As the heavy rain in Maharashtra affected the internet connection, E-Kuber portal is not functioning which is why the delay in salary and pension disbursement.
The opposition said in the assembly that the delay in salary disbursement occurs for the first time. They also alleged that this is linked with the financial crisis. But Thomas Isaac replied it is only the server issue of Reserve Bank and the amount is transferred to treasury.
Total 3 lakh beneficiaries
About 3 lakh persons were supposed to get their salary in the first two days of the month. One group of employees received the salary on Monday. The delay affected those who receive salary through bank accounts.
The staff of treasury, general administration and finance departments who switched their salary account to treasury accounts did not have any problem with the salary disbursement.
Kerala is one of the few states which have linked the salary disbursement with E-Kuber portal of the Reserve Bank. Not all employees withdraw their salaries from the bank in the initial days. So, there are not much complaints being raised regarding the delay, said Treasury Director A. M. Jafar Khan.
