Salary challenge: Suspended govt official not taken back even after 10 months
Alappuzha: Public Works Department (PWD) official who was suspended for sharing a social media post against salary challenge has not been inducted into service even after 10 months.
At the time when salary challenge was announced, there were opinions doing rounds that the salary challenge should be implemented after reducing the government expenses. P R Madhu, a First Grade Overseer of PWD, had shared one of the post and faced the wrath of government in the form of suspension.
The government justified the suspension and said his act amounts to violation of code of conduct for government officials that they shouldn’t propagate ideas against the government.
Madhu moved the Officials Tribunal against this which ordered to reconsider the suspension. Following that, Deputy Chief Engineer of PWD Vigilance section heard the part of Madhu and checked the apology. However, finding that Madhu’s arguments weren’t substantiated, an order was issued not to induct him into service. And, a small part was deducted from his subsistence allowance during his suspension period.
However, P S Santhosh Kumar, State Secretary Member of Joint Council, said that barring an employee from service for 10 months without pronouncing a penalty is violation of Supreme Court order. Action should be taken against the staff who violated the code of conduct. But, the government should also accept the employee after correcting them.
