Saji gets new wheelchair, starts preparation for national-level competition

Ponnani: Wheelchair-bound Saji is on cloud nine after a group of benevolent people surprised him with a special wheelchair. Mathoor native Saji (37) had lost the mobility of his legs due to polio. He was disappointed that he won't be able to participate in the wheelchair competitions for the physically challenged as lacking a suitable wheelchair. But some people abroad realized his need and gifted him a wheelchair.

Even after turning wheelchair-bound, he is optimistic to retrieve life with the help of the new wheelchair.

Saji had secured gold medals in the state level and national level competitions for the physically challenged. But this year, he thought that he could not participate in the sports marathon meet at Chennai and wheelchair basketball competition in Goa as he did not have a suitable wheelchair.

Mathrubhumi had published an article on Saji's life when he was helpless to buy the wheelchair that costs lakhs. After seeing the news, a group of kind-hearted people from abroad gifted a wheelchair to him.

Saji will contest in the competitions in Chennai and Goa by the middle of this year. He is undergoing ardent training sessions at Darshana club in Thrissur to win these national level competitions.
