Pathanamthitta: Sabarimala has been placed under tight security on Tuesday as more devotees started to visit the hill shrine during the Mandala Makaravilakku pilgrimage season. Commandos of police were deployed on the four sides of the sanctum sanctorum.
Over 10 RPF jawans also reached Sannidhanam for security. A team led by special officer Harichandra Naik is in charge of security. The officials monitored the temple premises through binoculars as part of strengthening the surveillance.
No one was allowed to enter the temple without a valid ID card. Police personnel were deployed at various points including Marakkoottam and Queue point.
Pilgrims who were en route to the hill shrine via Pullumedu were checked at the police aid post near Vandithavalam.
Aerial surveillance was also carried out. Special security was provided for water storage units and vehicles including tractors were checked. The district authority has thrown a thick security blanket from Nilakkal to Sannidhanam.
