Sabarimala season begins tomorrow; 36 lakh tins of aravana ready
Sabarimala: Elaborate arrangements have been made to welcome the Ayyappa devotees for this year’s Mandala-Makaravilakku season. Enough stock of appam and aravana have been arranged and also the annadhanam facilities. The authorities too have extended additional facilities for the devotees this time. The nada will be opened on Monday evening,
Sabarimala Executive Officer B L Renugopal said as many as 36 lakh tins of aravana and 2.5 lakh covers of appam preparations have been completed by Sunday. The Devaswom Board’s Annadhanam began on Sunday itself at Sabarimala, Pampa and Nilaikal. From this year onwards, as per HC verdict, different socio cultural organizations have been restricted from involving themselves in conducting annadhanam and hence the Devaswom Board has decided to hold annadhanam round the clock.
A new Annadhanam centre has been set up near Pandithavalam apart from the usual place at Maalikapuram at the Sannidhanam. The menu for annadhanam would be upma in the morning, lunch in afternoon and kanji (gruel) in the night. To ease the discomfort of pilgrims waiting in the cueue, biscuits and drinking water would be made available, according to Dewaswom Board authorities.
Cleanliness drive at Sannidhanam and Pampa have been completed and streetlights have been set up on the pilgrimage route. As the forest department has issued a directive not to hammer nails on trees, lights have been installed on posts erected for this purpose. The officials of Health, revenue and police department are camping in the place to oversee the smooth functioning of all arrangements. The pampa river looks clean and full with heavy rains lashing the area the previous day. The HC has also issued an order not to dispose off clothes at Pampa river lest it would invite strict punishment.
