Sabarimala Protest: Chilli-spray attack on Bindu Ammini, protests intensify
Kochi: Bindu Ammini, who came to visit the Sabarimala temple along with Trupti Desai, was attacked with chilli spray here on Tuesday morning.
The six-member team led by Trupti Desai had come to the Police Commissioner’s office seeking protection. On learning about this, a group of activists led by BJP leader C. G. Rajagopal reached the spot. They got into an argument with Bindu Ammini following which one of the activists sprayed chilli spray on her face.
When Bindu was being taken into a vehicle outside the commissioner’s office, the protesters also tried to attack her.
Following the attack, Bindu was taken to the Ernakulam government general hospital for treatment. Soon after she was hospitalised, a group of activists came to the hospital and started a namajapa protest. Police have taken one person into custody in connection with the attack on Bindu.
Trupti Desai and the other members of ‘Bhumata Brigade’ who were on their way to Pampa came to the city police commissioner’s office seeking protection.
Police took Bindu back to the commissioner’s office amid intense protest by Sabarimala Karma Samiti activists. They said they will continue protest until Trupti Desai and team returns. BJP leaders also clarified that they will not allow violation of customs at Sabarimala.
Meanwhile, a Sabarimala Karma Samiti activist collapsed during the protest. He was taken to the hospital. Following the protest, a large posse of police have been deployed at the spot.
