Sabarimala pilgrimage season ends peacefully; huge increase in income

Pathanamthitta: Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple witnessed a peaceful pilgrimage season this year. No controversies took place at Sannidhanam except for a few complaints regarding crowd control and the behaviour of police towards the pilgrims.

The state government took a completely different stand regarding women entry in Sabarimala this time. Even chief minister did not take a stand favourable for women entry. Devaswom commissioner N Vasu had supported the government last year whereas he repeated that tradition should be preserved during the entire pilgrimage season this time.

As the pilgrimage was smoothly arranged, there was huge increase in the number of pilgrims. According to the statistics till January 14, the income during Mandalam-Makaravilakku season was Rs 234 crores. When the final amount is calculated, this will increase. The income was only Rs 167 crore last year and Rs 260 crore in 2017-18.
