Sabarimala: Lakhs of devotees flocked to Sabarimala Ayyappa temple this Mandalam season after easing the Covid-induced restrictions that existed for the past two years. A huge rush was experienced in the temple on Friday which was brought under control by maintaining queues with heavy ropes.

The devotees who set off from Pamba early morning could reach the temple only by evening. The flow of pilgrims was regularised by restricting entry from Pamba.

The highest number of virtual bookings for darshan was also recorded on Friday. As many as 1,07,695 devotees booked their darshan slots for Friday.

Over one lakh pilgrims have done virtual bookings for Saturday also. Sabarimala police special officer Harishchandra Naik has ordered that the devotees shall not proceed via the forest, diverting from the main road due to the rush.

The authorities expect a hike in booking rate in the upcoming days too.
