Sabarimala pilgrim falls off moving train, suffers severe injury

Chengannur: A 53-year-old Sabarimala pilgrim was critically injured after falling from a moving train here. The person has been identified as Karuppa Swamy, a native of Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi.

According to reports, he met with the accident while trying to alight from the moving train. Karuppa Swamy was sleeping when the train halted at Chengannur railway station. When he woke up, the train was slowly moving from the station. He rushed to the door and tried to alight from the train, but fell into the gap between the train’s footboard and platform. The person had a narrow escape as the train was immediately stopped. The Railway Police Force and fire and safety personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the person by cutting the footboard off.

He is currently undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College.

According to reports, the person sustained severe injury in the abdominal region.
