Thiruvananthapuram: As a result of the heavy rush of devotees during the ‘Makaravilakku’ pilgrimage season, the revenue from the Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala has soared to Rs 351 crore.
As per reports, around 75 per cent of the total coins, received as offerings, are yet to be counted and deposited. The counting, which was put to a halt on Wednesday, will be resumed on February 5.
The temple income was Rs 151 crore last year. Of the total revenue, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) incurs an expenditure of 40 per cent.
Meanwhile, there are plans to purchase a device equipped with sensors to count the coins, said TDB president K Ananthagopan.
