Sabarimala first day income at Rs 3.32 cr
Pathanamthitta: The income on the first day of Sabarimala pilgrimage season touched Rs 3.32 crore. Compared to previous year, there is an increase of Rs 1.28 crore in the income on the first day of the pilgrimage season. Devaswom president N. Vasu said that the money offerings from the devotees, income through sale of Appam and Aravana and profit from shops also increased.
There was a huge decrease in the number of pilgrims last year following the law and order issues that took place on the temple premises. Also there were campaigns asking the devotees not to put money in the hundi in the temples under the Devaswom board and not to buy the holy offerings like Aravana.
With this, there was a steady decrease in Devaswom board’s income from the very first day last year. However, no such untoward incidents occurred this year and this reflected in the income also. Also the income from other sources increased except for a slight decline in Aravana sales.
The board expects a better income through the hundi collection and sale of holy offerings. Compared to 2017, there is a rise of Rs 25 lakh in the hundi collection on first day. This is Rs 1.28 crore higher than the collection on first day in 2018 season, N. Vasu told the media.
