Sabarimala: Devaswom board to arrange special facilities for elderly pilgrims
Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom Board will arrange better facilities for senior citizens and physically challenged people in Sabarimala. A special waiting centre will be arranged at Sannidhanam and guards will be appointed for helping them.
The decisions in this regard were taken at Travancore Devaswom Board meeting held the other day. Basic amenities, including drinking water, will be made available at the waiting centres. Devaswom guards will help the senior citizens if required.
At present, implementing a special queue for elderly people is not possible. Majority of the pilgrims arrive in large groups. It is not possible to separate elderly people from them and allow them to enter Sannidhanam alone.
A parliamentary committee for the welfare of senior citizens headed by C. K. Nanu had convened a meeting at Pamba and put forward suggestions. Board president N. Vasu and member K. S. Ravi said that necessary suggestions will be implemented.
Some of the suggestions of the committee
- Temporary shelters at forest path. The forest department should not oppose as it is temporary arrangement.
- Helpers for elderly pilgrims who come alone.
- Special queue for elderly people for darshan.
- Coordination of various departments to help people who arrive alone.
