Sabarimala: Arrested persons remanded for 14 days
Sabarimala: The 68 persons who were arrested from Sannidhanam on Sunday night for staging namajapa protest have been remanded for 14 days by the Pathanamthitta Munsif Court on Monday. Their bail plea will be considered on Wednesday. After arrest, they were taken to Maniyar police camp and were later produced at the court on Monday.
Non-bailable offences including violation of prohibitory order, causing hindrance to police duty have been charged against them.
It is reported that they will be taken to the Thiruvananthapuram central jail. Usually the remanded persons are taken to Kottarakkara subjail. But the lack of space to accommodate these number of people will force the police to take them to Thiruvananthapuram central jail.
Vast protests were staged in front of the court on Monday. The arrested persons were presented at the court in huge police protection.
The police had arrested the persons after they continued with the namajapa protest even after closing of the nada on Sunday night. Though they proposed to be arrested after ‘neyyabishekam’ police didn’t heed to the request. A devotee under 18 years of age was among the arrested who was later let off after being taken to Maniyar police camp.
Most of the arrested are Moovattuppuzha, Perumbavoor natives.
