Sabarimala airport: Government orders acquisition of land
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has ordered acquisition of land for the construction of Sabarimala airport. The Kottayam Collector has been given the charge of land acquisition activities. The order was released by the Revenue Department.
The decision to proceed with the Sabarimala Greenfield airport was taken at the high level committee meeting chaired by the Chief Minister the other day. The Revenue Department’s order was released after this meeting. A total of 2263.13 acres of land in Cheruvally estate will be used for this project.
The acquisition will be done as per land acquisition act of 2013. The ownership of the land has been a subject of dispute for several years now. The land will be acquired after depositing a compensation amount in court as per section 77 of land acquisition act.
The government has submitted a petition in Pala court regarding the ownership of the land. Government has initiated the acquisition proceedings while the petition is still under the consideration of the court.
