Kannur: Rubber Board vice chairman and Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) leader K Unnikrishnan held talks with Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church.

The meeting was held on Friday morning at the bishop house in Thalassery.

A few days back, Mar Joseph Pamplany created a political storm in Kerala by declaring that the BJP's deficit of an MP from the state would be addressed if the Union Government promised to increase the price of natural rubber to Rs 300 per kilogram.

Following this, the major political forces in Kerala, CPM and Congress, came out against the bishop's remark.

During the meeting, the bishop reiterated his demand for increasing the rubber procurement price to Rs 300 per kg.

The bishop is likely to hold talks with union cabinet ministers, including Piyush Goyal, in the coming months.
