RSS crossvoting helped LDF victory in Vattiyoorkavu: K Muraleedharan
Kozhikode: Congress MP K. Muraleedharan alleged that LDF’s victory in Vattiyoorkavu bypoll was the result of their alliance with RSS after rejecting NSS. He added that the LDF candidate won as RSS crossvoted to CPM and that he already predicted this.
It was UDF who took a strong stand regarding protection of traditions which is why the NSS took a favourable attitude towards UDF. LDF claims to be secular but accepted RSS and this resulted in their victory. There is no point in disowning NSS just because of the poll debacle, he said.
Nobody took it seriously when KPCC president, opposition leader and I warned of RSS crossvoting. The candidate also ignored it and people forgot the fact. When Kummanam Rajasekharan was replaced with S. Suresh, BJP disappeared from campaigns, Muraleedharan alleged.
Minister Kadakampally Surendran and others wooed votes among Ezhava families in the name of caste. They crossvoted to show their dominance in determining the poll results. Also, some of the strong UDF supporters have changed their minds, he added.
LDF introduced V. K. Prasanth as ‘Mayor Bro’ in view of the election. Compared to last year, only half quantity of the relief materials were sent this year and Prasanth only flagged off them. He got the advantage as a young candidate. The Congress candidate had less contacts among the public. All these led to LDF victory, Muraleedharan observed.
K. Muraleedharan also said that he did not suggest the name of the UDF candidate. First, the name of Peethambara Kurup was suggested by all. Later, K. Mohankumar was made the candidate. I accepted it and campaigned for him, he further said.
In Aroor, LDF’s stronghold was broken. It is a great achievement. The poll debacle is a result of party’s lapses. There is no point in blaming anyone for the failure. The party organisational system need to be more efficient, he opined.
