Rs 6 cr worth Govt aircraft lying in cold storage
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government which had purchased an aircraft worth Rs 6 crore remains under cold storage for the past four years. It is reported that the aircraft, which can accommodate six passengers, is kept at the hangar in Thiruvananthapuram without repairing small technical issues.
The matter came to light in the background of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s controversial helicopter journey misusing the Ockhi relief fund.
The state government took a decision to purchase the twin engine aircraft in 2013. Though it was purchased for the Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology at Thiruvananthapuram, the government decided to make use it for VIPs.
It is the National Aviation Authority which grant permission for such aircrafts to take VIPs for trips.
Ganesh Kumar was the transport minister when the government made the purchase.
The academy owns other two aircrafts for flight training. But all these are single engine aircrafts.
It is alleged that the government is neglecting the need to repair the aircraft and operate if for official purposes.
