Rs 22.92 lakh collected as fine for selling drinking water at higher price
Kottayam: In three months, Rs 22.92 lakh has been collected as fine for selling bottled drinking water at a higher price despite a state government order, the Legal Metrology Controller has informed the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
SHRC chief justice Antony Dominic had directed the authorities to submit a detailed report regarding the steps taken to prevent the sale of bottled drinking water for Rs 20 despite a government order bringing the price to Rs 13.
A report submitted to the SHRC chief mentioned the fine amount collected for selling drinking water at a high price. The action comes after a complaint was submitted by Thiruvarppu native Mithun K. Yesudas.
Customers who notice drinking water being sold at a higher price can complain at the toll free number 1800-425-4835 or using the ‘Sutharyam’ mobile application or by logging into the website lmd.kerala.gov.in.
