Rs 1267 crore for women welfare, Rs 200 crore for Kudumbasree
Thiruvananthapuram: Presenting the state Budget 2018, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said that Rs 1267 crore have been allocated for the welfare of women. The budget share allocated for the welfare of women has been increased to 14.6 percent from the previous 11.5 percent, he said.
Rs 50 crore will be earmarked for initiatives to improve women safety. A new project will be designed for ensuring gender justice. The panchayats which take up women-friendly projects will be granted Rs 10 crore. Besides, Rs 3 crore will be given as emergency aid for the survivors of assaults, Rs 5 core for their rehabilitation, and Rs 20 crore for the renovation of shelter homes for women and elderly people.
The monthly allowance for the single mothers will be increased from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000. Also, Rs 20 crore will be allotted for women entrepreneur schemes and Rs 3 crore for Women Fed, in order to increase their participation in modern industry. She-Lodge will be set up in Ernakulam at a cost of Rs 4 crore. Ladies toilets will be set up in markets, roadsides, police station and other institutions and public places.
The year 2018-19 will be observed as ‘Ayalkkoottam Year’. Rs 200 crore has been allowed for Kudumbashree. Rs 5 crore will be earmarked for establishing a training centre of Kudumbashree for women empowerment. Besides, another Rs 10 crore is allotted to uplift transgenders into mainstream.
