Mananthavady: The state government has promised compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of Wayanad native PC Thomas Pallipurath, who was mauled by a tiger in Puthussery on Thursday. The victim’s son will also be provided a government job.
The decision was taken on Friday after district collector A Geetha held talks with the representatives of an action council comprising local residents. Reportedly, the amount will be handed over by Saturday noon.
As per reports, the government will write off the agricultural debts of Thomas. His son will be provided a temporary job on the basis of his qualification. Later, a recommendation will be made to give him permanent employment.
Apparently, those who took part in the discussion had demanded Rs 50 lakh as compensation. Several representatives of political parties and working committees, including OR Kelu MLA, took part in the talks.
Following which, the victim’s body, kept at Mananthavady Medical College mortuary, was shifted to his house in Puthussery.
The funeral will be held in St Thomas Knanaya Catholic Church at 2.30 pm on Saturday.
