Thiruvananthapuram: An allegation has arisen that minister K T Jaleel intervened to regularize an unauthorised appointment of a college teacher. It is alleged that the minister directed the Vice Chancellor of Kerala university in this regard.

The minister intervened to appoint a Latin teacher as English teacher in Thumba St Xavier’s College in Thiruvananthapuram. The Save University committee filed a complaint to the Governor to withdraw this order.

A special meeting was convened under the leadership of minister K T Jaleel to consider the request of the college management to appoint Fr Dr V Y Dasappan, who is the Latin teacher and principal of Thumba St Xavier’s College, as English teacher.

However, the Joint Registrar informed the meeting that the application in this regard was earlier rejected by the university. The minister directed the university to take appropriate action after checking the qualification of the teacher. But a representative of the college management and the teacher who filed the application also took part in the meeting.

The teacher has completed MA, MPhil and PhD in English. However, the UGC rules do not allow changing a teacher from the subject department in which he/she was appointed first. The Save University Committee stated in the complaint filed to the Governor that the minister intervened in the university’s rights.
