Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leaders including MM Hassan, Benny Behanan, and KC Joseph visited former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy. The veteran leader is on bed rest, recovering from pneumonia. Party leaders who visited him sought advice on various issues including the rift over party restructuring and the appointment of Youth Congress president.

It should be noted that rift between Congress A and I groups widened following the party restructuring at block level recently. Both the groups are expected to meet national chief Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing their displeasure over the “hasty procedure.”

However it is known that top leadership of the party are no longer in a mood to entertain ‘group politics’ withinside the party, taking into consideration the bigger challenges lying ahead, as they prepare for 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, the Congress A group is expected to put forward the names of Rahul Mamkootathil, KM Abhijith, and JS Akhil, as possible candidates for the post of Youth Congress state president.
