Rough sea alert on Kerala's coastline till Friday night; avoid trips to beaches

Thiruvananthapuram: An alert of possible swell waves has been issued across Kerala's coastal line. Visiting beaches must be avoided. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea for fishing.

The alert, issued by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, lasts till 8.30 pm on Friday. Waves as high as 1.4 m to 2 m are predicted.

"There is a possibility that sea will be rough nearshore along the coast from 17:30 hours of 16-02-2023 to 20:30 hours of 17-02-2023 due to the effect of high period (16-19 sec) swell waves, having heights of 1.4 -2.0 m. Current speeds vary between 25 - 80 cm/sec," read the alert.

People living in coastal areas are advised to stay vigilant. They must cooperate with the authorities if asked to move to a safer place.

Boats and equipment must be kept safe in the harbour.

The alert is applicable to the western coastline of the country, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep as well.
