Road named after India’s Olympic hockey star Sreejesh ‘decorated’ with garbage
Kizhakkambalam: India’s Olympic hockey star PR Sreejesh in his Twitter handle has shared a picture of the garbage pile in a road named after him in his home town Kizhakkambalam. Expressing his displeasure over the conduct of people, Sreejesh has urged the attention of the village officers in the region where the road passes through. He also tagged Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan in the tweet.

This is the way people of my village decorated the road named after me..😞
Kunnathunadu/Kizhakkambalam village officers have to look at this issue & take a decision 🙏#save #earth #for #the #future @vijayanpinarayi pic.twitter.com/NbUqjNlkUl
Sreejesh in his tweet used the word ‘decorated’ to implicitly mock the way people behave despite the high literacy of the state. Meanwhile, it is pertinent that like many other places in Kerala, stretch between Kizhakkambalam panchayat and Kunnathunad panchayat is a spot where waste dumping is an issue.
The people have been complaining about the matter for a long time, but there has been no effective move from the concerned authorities. Ant-socials are dumping the garbage on the road at night as there are no houses or onlookers near.
Being a border region, the place is isolated and do not have street lights. The residents around have raised the issue in different civic forums but no proactive solutions are provided yet. The locals demanded patrolling by police and installation of CCTV cameras.
