Thiruvananthapuram: In a horrific road accident, a couple was killed after a bike hit them while they were crossing road. The deceased were identified as Kollam natives Dennis Daniel (45) and his wife Nirmala Dennis (33).

The accident occurred on Wednesday night around 8.30 pm in Pazhavangadi as the couple were trying to cross the road after parking their car near the roadside to buy medicines. They had gone for treatment at a private hospital and had stopped to buy medicines on their way home.

Out of the two speeding bikes, one hit them and sped away without stopping. Although the witnesses rushed the couple to the hospital, Dennis succumbed to the injuries by midnight. Nirmala died by Wednesday morning.

The Fort Police have taken into custody a bike that was found lying near the accident spot. Police have found the CCTV footage showing the bike falling, but there were no visuals of the bike hitting the couple.

Both the bikers have suffered injuries. Their explanation is that the accident was caused by another bike that had been speeding. The police will perform a forensic examination to see if the bike that was taken into custody caused the accident. The search for the other bike has started.

Denila and Dayan are the children of the deceased couple. The last rites will be held at St Joseph Church cemetery in North Mylakkadu on Friday.
