Ro-Ro ferry service in Kochi stopped
Kochi: The Roll-on Roll-off(Ro-Ro) ferry service which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday has been stopped after it was found that the Jhankar did not possess a license.
The Ro-Ro vessel was built at a cost of Rs 16.5 crore.
The Jhankar service from Fort Kochi to Kochi had been stopped for the past one year. Due to this, people have been using the road to go to Kochi and return, which is a cumbersome process. Hence, the people enthusiastically welcomed the Ro-Ro service introduced by the corporation. The service has been stopped after it was found that the Jhankar service lacked necessary documents. It is viewed as a major lapse on the part of the corporation.
The service did not have a license or clearance from the port trust. Allegations of security lapses have also been raised against the corporation.
Several services were conducted on the inaugural day including the inaugural service carrying the chief minister and leaders.
