Kozhikode: Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader N. Venu said that the party will support the UDF in the upcoming Assembly election as it did in the recent Local Self Government polls.
“RMP may not have specific candidates like last time. We are expecting UDF’s support and if that happens, RMP will surely secure victory in Vadakara,” Venu told Mathrubhumi.com.
The RMP has nearly 20,000 cadre votes in Vadakara alone. If there is a situation where RMP will win the polls, even the CPI (M) votes will be in favour of the party, said N. Venu. Stating that there has not been a decision regarding his candidature, Venu said that RMP will field a very strong candidate who can secure victory in Vadakara.
The primary objective is to defeat LDF. The LJD, which supported UDF last time around, is with the LDF now. But with RMP’s support, the UDF will not feel the void. Discussions to select candidates are progressing, N. Venu said.
Apart from Vadakara, RMP has vote share in Kuttiyadi, Nadapuram and Kunnamangalam. RMP can be a decisive factor in these areas, he pointed out.
During the last Assembly election, K. K. Rema, wife of party founder T. P. Chandrasekharan, was the RMP candidate. She secured 20.504 votes to finish third. C. K. Nanu won the polls with a majority of 9,511 votes.
