Ritual of immersing ashes can be performed via post

Malappuram: Soon after the facility to deliver ‘Gangajal’ (water from River Ganges) at doorsteps via courier, the Postal Department is initiating a new scheme to perform ‘Asthi Nimajjan’ (the ritual of immersing ashes of the deceased).

The scheme initiated by a religious organization ‘Om Divya Darshan’ is implemented with the help of Postal Department. The postal department authorities said that the scheme is implemented with an aim to help perform the ritual as Covid restrictions has affected travel.

‘Om Divya Darshan’ sought help of postal department for this purpose. The ashes can be immersed at Haridwar, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Gaya. According to the scheme, which is abbreviated as ODD, those who register in the portal http://omdivyadarshan.org/ will also receive ‘Gangajal’ for free.

ODD assured that the rituals will be performed without any lapses. The packet containing the mortal remains should be sent as speed post from selected post offices where booking facility is available. The circulars explaining how the ashes should be packed has been sent to the concerned offices.

The post offices are directed to mention ‘Om Divya Darshan’ on the packets. The head post office at Sansad Marg in Delhi has been selected as the nodal office for sending ‘Gangajal’ to the beneficiaries.
