Rights of Speaker denied: Sreeramakrishnan on opposition protest
Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan asked the opposition to exercise 'fairness' while holding protests. He also said that protests obstructing the Chair cannot be allowed in the Assembly.
Addressing the media after the Assembly session, he said the Chair is not against any kind of protest and has also tried the best to protect the right to protest, he said.
"I have protected the rights of the opposition in the past 9 assembly sessions. It is my stand to speak for the rights of the opposition," he added. But what happened today is something that has never been heard in the history of the assembly. The opposition tried to create a situation in which the Chair was not able to see the members, which is quite unfortunate and sorrowful.
The Chair is not an individual. Everyone should maintain a basic discipline. The opposition denied the common right of the Speaker. They created trouble without even stating the reason for it, he added. Due to the opposition protest, the Speaker today denied the permission for the notice of adjournment motion.
