Idukki: Kerala forest department has passed tranquilising order against rice-loving rogue jumbo Arikompan, which has a notorious track record of vandalizing and raiding ration shops in the Santhanpara region here. Chief Wildlife Warden has ordered the tranquilising of the tusker.

Arikompan’s modus operandi is vandalising sides of ration shops and taking out sacks of rice. It will have the rice and return to the forest.

The jumbo as of now has not attacked any individuals, but repeated episodes have been making people panic.

The forest department’s move comes in the wake of protests by locals urging the authorities to resolve such issues.

Meanwhile, the order issued specifies actions to be followed after the tranquillisation.
