Revolt against PJ Kurian in Pathanamthitta Congress
Pathanamthitta: Ahead of the assembly elections, there is a revolt inside Congress party in Pathanamthitta district against senior leader PJ Kurian. A faction of Congress leaders have started to revolt against PJ Kurian in the backdrop of rumors that he will be the UDF candidate for Thiruvalla constituency.
A group of Youth Congress workers organized a public protest and burned the effigy of PJ Kurian near Mallappally here in the district. It is alleged that PJ Kurian is avoiding a certain section of Congress leaders.
The UDF state leadership had removed a Congress block president from his position. There are allegations that PJ Kurian was behind this move. They also alleged that he was responsible for the party losing Puramattom panchayat to LDF.
The LDF won the ward by-election held after a UDF member passed away. This led to LDF winning the administrative power of Puramattom panchayat. Protestors alleged that there was conspiracy behind this. It was after this that the news about PJ Kurian’s possible candidature came out. This led to the protests.
