Revised electricity charges to be announced within 2 days
Thiruvananthapuram: Revised electricity charges will be announced on Monday or Tuesday. The Regulatory Commission has decided to increase the charge by 8-10 percent.
Though it was decided to increase electricity charges months before, the announcement was postponed due to election and assembly sessions. The government also asked the commission to correct the charges from the earlier rate.
Those who consume less units of power will not be affected with the revised charges. The commission had informed the government that these revised charges will be announced on Monday or Tuesday.
The commission had earlier decided to revise the charge for two years together. KSEB had submitted application in this regard. But the charge increase is for only one year and will be announced now.
The KSEB requested to increase 70 paise per unit for domestic connections and demanded increase in rates of the lower slabs. KSEB targets Rs 1100 crore this year. The total debt of the board is Rs 7400 crore, but the commission will not allow such a huge hike in charges.
In addition to the charge increase, load shedding also is likely to be implemented. The rainfall was too less than expected and the dams also have very less quantity of water. The board will assess the situations on July 15.
