Thiruvananthapuram: A state cabinet meeting on Thursday turned soar after revenue Minister K Rajan openly blamed Chief Secretary VP Joy for suggesting to dissolve the state-run PSU Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB).
"Officials are not above the Left Democratic Front or the state cabinet and are only bound to implement the instructions given by the ministers," said Rajan. The remark came after Revenue Minister questioned VP Joy for not following his order and making changes to the minutes prepared for a cabinet meeting convened to discuss the dues to be paid by the public sector organizations to the Housing Board.
Rajan also questioned the action of the Chief Secretary, who proposed to divert the money received by the Revenue Department in connection with the reclassification of the land. At one point, even Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intervened to ease the situation.
The revenue department has recently received more than Rs 800 crore in land reclassification fees.
Chief Secretary proposed diverting the money received by the revenue department for various project allocations of local bodies. However, K Rajan opposed the move and disapproved Chief Secretary's proposal.
The minister warned the Chief Secretary not to act as "super chief minister" of the state.
"Neither the Left Front nor the state cabinet has decided to dissolve the Housing Board. Did the Chief Secretary suggest to dissolve Housing Board without knowing this?" he asked.
