Revenue department to make list of corrupt officials
Thiruvananthapuram: A list of corrupted officials in the revenue department is under preparation in order to prevent bribery and other illegal acts. In the primary phase, the officials included in the list will be transferred. The employees in the list will be removed from offices where land documents are handled, positions that need to utilize the discretionary powers and designations which require direct communication with the public.
Higher officials will hold a surprise check in the officers ranging from village offices to collectorate once in two weeks. For this, five squads for inspection and one squad for monitoring will be formed in every district. The revenue minister has directed to form the squads within April 20. The squads will start inspection from May.
The squads will be headed by the district collector in all districts. The Sub Collectors, Additional District Magistrates and RDOs of the districts will lead the squad. The squads will have the power to take instant action, if any malpractices are detected.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate included in the squad have the authority to take action, including arrest, upon receiving evidence for bribery. The higher officials can even terminate the corrupted employees considering the seriousness of the crime. It has been directed that the department-level disciplinary action within 6 months may be initiated. Presently, 200 officials are facing department- level disciplinary action and 60 among them are suspended.
