Thiruvananthapuram: Anil Akkara MLA on Saturday said he revealed the identity of Wadakkanchery rape victim after obtaining her formal consent.
“The victim had given her consent to use her name while justifying her part. The police tried to hush up the case and I scuttled their plan. Their attack on me during the protest at Thrissur on Friday was an act of revenge,” the MLA charged in a press release.
“The disclosure of the victim’s name during the press conference was unintentional. But, it was done to help media personnel taking up the issue. Though revealing her identity is a punishable offence, the case will not stand since I have her formal consent. Keeping this in mind, the police thrashed me cruelly,” Anil alleged.
“The policemen, who cane charged the Congress workers, should b suspended. The police have not yet interrogated the accused despite the existence of scientific evidence. In this context, judicial probe should be conducted into the rape and also the police action,” he added.
