Kozhikode: When the COVID-19 fear diminished gradually, the lockdown restrictions imposed in the central market of Kozhikode has been slightly eased. Being one of the major selling points in the city, the central market opened under the supervision of health officials. Also, the paddy farmers group (Padasekhara Samithi) was exempted from the restrictions along with the permission of panchayats.
It was decided to open the central market on Wednesday in the presence of Mayor. Only two vehicles were allowed to enter the market. But about seven vehicles entered the market and it was closed again on the first day. But only two vehicles entered the market on Thursday and Friday.
The health wing of the corporation has informed the merchants that they will be allowed to run the market only if crowd is controlled. Also strict checking will be conducted to ensure quality of the fish.
The paddy farmers group (Padasekhara Samithi) was exempted from restrictions as harvest season has arrived. It also requires permission from panchayat authorities.
At present, 21,934 people are quarantined in houses and hospitals in Kozhikode district. Only five positive cases are remaining in the district currently. Two persons were discharged recently giving relief to the people here.
