Actress Kukku Parameshwaran

Kochi: Actress Kukku Parameshwaran, one among the three office-bearers who resigned from the internal complaints committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) to mark their protest against the inaction of the association towards actor-producer Vijay Babu who is an accused in a sexual assault case, has come up with the rationale over her decision.

According to her, though resignation is not a solution to anything, it sends a signal “that the association’s decision is wrong.” She further said that AMMA is capable of doing things in a better way.

“AMMA was not able to imbibe the directions of the internal complaints committee," she said.

Kukku Parameshwaram maintained that she is still satisfied with the association and has confidence in its leadership.

Notably, earlier in the day, actresses Kukku Parameshwaran and Shweta Menon had resigned from the internal complaints committee of AMMA for inaction against Babu. Last day, actress Maala Parvathi too had resigned from the committee over the same reason.

Though there were speculations that the body would act against Babu in the wake of the meeting on Sunday, no proactive measures were taken.

The association, which sought the internal complaints committee’s report on the matter, was provided with the recommendations. But AMMA did not imbibe the recommendations and avoided disciplinary action with a justification that Babu himself acknowledged to temporarily dissociate with it.
