Thrissur: A group of friends received a call requesting help for the treatment of a poor woman. But the kind souls did not stop by offering only that and even built a new safe house for her. Within a few weeks, Mandamangalam native Latha can shift to her newly built house. The friends are busy with its works.
Latha is half paralysed and is suffering from severe diabetes and kidney disease. Her son Sijo had to carry her from their hut on top of the hills to the road for taking her to hospital. Sijo had stopped education after class 9 and is working as painting worker. His meager income is insufficient to meet the expense for treatment and daily life.
On knowing the plight of the family, somebody contacted the group of friends who are members of BDK, the association of blood donors in Kerala. When they visited Latha's house to provide the fund for treatment, they noticed their house and decided to build a new house for them. The BDK members contributed generously for the good cause.
The new house is being constructed in a plot which is not far from roadside. Over Rs 4 lakh was spent for the construction so far. All works including concreting and wiring were done by the members of the association. This helped to reduce the expenses. The house will be handed over once painting is completed. They have also arranged facility to move the wheel chair from the house to road.
