Kasaragod: In a bizarre incident, Minister Ahamed Devarkovil on Wednesday hoisted the national flag upside down during the Republic Day celebrations at the district headquarters. The minister and other top officials went on to salute the flag not realising it was hoisted incorrectly.

Later, when the media personnel pointed out the mistake, the authorities lowered the flag and raised it in the correct manner.

The Republic Day celebration and parade were held under strict covid-19 protocols. Apart from Minister Ahmed Devarkovil, senior district officials, including ADM and the district police chief, were present on the occasion. The district collector did not attend the Republic Day celebrations because he was on vacation.
