Remand prisoner commits suicide in Poojappura Central Jail

Thiruvananthapuram: A remand prisoner committed suicide by hanging himself at Poojappura Centra Jail, Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased has been identified as Biju (47), a native of Pothencode.

The incident took place on Friday morning. The prisoner was found dead around 5.45 am when the jail warden came for inspection. He was soon rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Biju was arrested by the Attingal police in connection with a theft case. He had been remanded in the Attingal Sub Jail and was shifted to an isolation cell in Poojappura Central Jail on November 24, 2023 after he caught an epidemic.

The body has been kept at the mortuary in Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.
