Kochi: The Customs plan to book a case against minister K T Jaleel in connection with the distribution of religious texts in Kerala. The Customs feels that distribution of items that comes through the diplomatic channel outside amounts to violation of rules and hence will register a case. In connection with this, the minister will be quizzed by the Customs.

The minister had violated rules and gone about distributing the religious texts in various parts of the state, according to the preliminary investigation. The texts arrived from UAE Consulate through the diplomatic channel. The customs has formed a separate team to investigate this.

Besides religious texts, dates amounting to 17000 kg also arrived and was distributed in the state. The diplomatic channel can be used only by diplomats and items arriving in their name must not be given outside. Diplomats have been given permission to bring items ranging from drinking water to food items from their country but other items had also reached the state along with that and taken outside for distribution.
