Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday quashed the FIR registered by state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau in the alleged bribery case against Muslim League leader KM Shaji.
The court accepted the former MLA’s contention that the case was not maintainable.

According to the complaint, Shaji took a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from the management of an aided higher secondary school in Azhikode for a new Plus Two batch. The allegation was first raised by a Muslim League leader. Later, Kuduvan Padmanabhan, president of Kannur Block Panchayat, filed a complaint and a case was registered in January 2020.
Shaji was booked for money laundering after nearly Rs 50 lakh was seized during the vigilance raid at his house in Kannur. Vigilance accused Shaji of amassing extra income of more than Rs 1 crore in the past nine years.
The Enforcement Directorate also got involved in the matter after allegations of money laundering surfaced. ED attached assets worth Rs 25 lakh possessed by Shaji’s wife. It attached the house and land at Vengeri in Kozhikode registered in the name of Asha Shaji.
