Rejecting aid may affect Kerala-UAE relations: AK Antony
Alappuzha: Taking a serious note on UAE aid to Kerala, former union defence minister and senior congress leader AK Antony stated that rejecting the aid will affect the friendly relations between UAE and Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had announced that UAE has offered an aid of Rs 700 crore for flood relief fund on Tuesday.
According to India’s policy, such huge donations should not be accepted from foreign countries.
“Financial aid should not be rejected. We have to change the rules that block accepting UAE aid to flood affected Kerala. We need technical support and assistance of some countries to rebuild flood-hit state. So we should not take a hasty decision on UAE aid,” said AK Antony.
He also added that Kerala should not refuse to accept aid from Japan.
UPA government has formed the policy of accepting foreign aid as loan. But the country has not received any aid from foreign countries after this rule came into effective.
According to Centre, Kerala is capable enough to handle the crisis following the disaster.
