Reduce forward caste reservation to 5 percent, demands Vellappally Natesan
Cherthala: SNDP general secretary Vellappally Natesan has demanded to decrease the forward caste reservation from 10 percent to 5 percent. He has raised the demand at a time when NSS appealed to implement the reservation with retrospective effect.
Vellappally pointed out that among the forward castes, only 5 percent people will belong to the economically backward group.
“SNDP is not against government providing help to people who belong to any community. But such actions should not harm others. In Kerala, nearly 26 percent people belong to higher castes in Christian and Hindu Communities. They are advanced in various sectors including education and have representation in administration also. Only 5 percent of people among them belong to the economically backward category. So granting 10 percent reservation to them cannot be justified,” said Vellappally.
At present, forward caste reservation is a subject which is before the Supreme Court. The state government is trying to hand over the responsibility to the centre. UDF should reveal their stand on the issue. SNDP is planning to conduct joint protests over the forward caste reservation, added Vellappally.
