Recruitment of govt school teachers hits record high; more teachers required
Thiruvananthapuram: Recruitment of teachers has increased to an all time high after more number of students joined government primary schools. Even the applicants listed in the PSC rank list is not enough to cover the vacancies. Recruitment has been stopped in 6 districts so that the list wouldn’t get canceled owing to a shortage of applicants. PSC has reinvigorated the efforts to publish a new rank list.
The recruitment of teachers in LP schools is at an all time high. 5653 applicants from the rank list which is valid for 1 more year, received the letter of appointment. The rank lists for Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts stand the risk of being cancelled due to shortage of applicants. In order to prevent that from happening, PSC is not handing over the letter of appointment to the last person on the list. Administrative Tribunal has rejected the proposal to include more applicants in this list. Tribunal said that there is no provision to add more applicants in an already published rank list by lowering the cut off marks.
The number of students in government-aided schools increased by 5 lakhs in the past 3 academic years. Out of this, 2.10 lakh students took admission in government schools. The increase in the number of students and lack of appointment in previous years is what led to an increase in the recruitment of LP teachers.
PSC has started procedures to prepare new rank lists as there are several vacancies. It expects to prepare the rank lists by next year, at least for the district where the published rank lists could get canceled. Malappuram is the district with the most number of recruitments.
