Record single-day spike of 1038 Covid cases in Kerala; 785 through contact
Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 1038 people were confirmed with COVID-19 in the state on Wednesday. This is the highest-ever singe day count to be reported in state and the first to cross 1000 mark. Also, the total number of Covid cases in the state crossed 15,000 and touched 15,032. At present there are 8,818 active COVID-19 cases in the state. 53 among them are in ICU and 9 in ventilator.
Out of the 1038 cases, 785 contracted the coronavirus through contact. 57 of the cases have unknown source. 87 people had returned from abroad and 109 from other states. One death was also reported in the state on Wednesday – Idukki native Narayanan (87).
The district-wise statistics of confirmed cases is Thiruvananthapuram 226, Kollam 133, Alapppuzha 120, Pathanamthitta 49, Kottayam 51, Idukki 53, Ernakulam 92, Thrissur 56, Palakkad 34, Malappuram 61, Kozhikode 25, Kannur 43, Wayanad 4 and Kasaragod 101.
Meanwhile, 272 people tested negative for the disease in last 24 hours.
9 in Thiruvananthapuram, 13 in Kollam, 38 in Pathanamthitta, 19 in Alappuzha, 1 in Idukki, 12 in Kottayam, 18 in Ernakulam, 33 in Thrissur, 15 in Palakkad, 52 in Malappuram, 14 in Kozhikode, 4 in Wayanad and 43 in Kasaragod tested negative.
In the last 24 hours, 20,847 samples were tested in the state. 1,59,777 people are presently under observation. Among them 9,031 are in hospitals. 1164 people were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.
In all, 3,18,644 samples have been sent for tests so far out of which the results of 8,320 are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance 1,03,951 samples were collected from priority groups out of which 99,499 came out negative.
The number of hotspots in the state increased to 397.
