Record single-day spike: 1078 COVID-19 cases, 798 through contact
Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 1078 people have been confirmed with COVID-19 in the state on Thursday. This is the highest-ever singe day count to be reported in state. Also five deaths due to COVID-19 was reported in the state.
The total number of COVID cases in the state touched 16,110. 798 patients contracted the disease through contact. 65 of the cases have unknown source. 104 people had returned from abroad and 115 from other states.
The deceased are identified as Kozhikode Kallayi native Koyutty (58), Muvvattupuzha Madakkathanam native Lakshmi Kunjan Pillai (79), Parassala native Raveendran (73), Kollam KS Puram native Rahiyanath (58) and Kannur Vilakkottoor native Sadananadan (60).
The district-wise statistics of confirmed cases is Thiruvananthapuram 222, Kollam 106, Ernakulam 100, Malappuram 89, Thrissur 83, Alappuzha 82, Kottayam 80, Kozhikode 67, Idukki 63, Kannur 51, Palakkad 51, Kasaragod 47, Pathanamthitta 27, and Wayanad 10.
Meanwhile, 432 people tested negative for the disease in last 24 hours. The district-wise statistics of negative cases is Thiruvananthapuram 60, Kollam 31, Alappuzha 39, Kottayam 25, Idukki 22, Ernakulam 95, Thrissur 21, Palakkad 45, Malappuram 30, Kozhikode 16, Wayanad 5, Kannur 7 and Kasaragod 36.
In the last 24 hours, 22432 samples were tested in the state. 1,58,117 people are presently under observation. Among them 9,354 are in hospitals. 1070 people were admitted to hospitals on Thursday. 9,458 are currently under treatment.
In total, 3,28,940 samples have been sent for tests so far out of which the results of 9,159 are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance 1,07,066 samples were collected from priority groups out of which 1,02,687 came out negative. The number of hotspots in the state increased to 428.
